Thomas Hart Benton (American,1889-1975)
Benton studies at many prestigious art schools including the Corcoran Gallery, The Academie Julien in Paris, The Chicago Art Institute but his background as a Missouri farm boy informed his art throughout his life. He established a distinctive style of modernist regionalist realist painting that influenced many later artists and has made him one of the leading American artists of the 20th century.
Here he has applied his characteristic long limbed and rhythmic style of depiction of human figures to the cow and calf.
