A delicately engraved and beautifully colored steel engraving from a French series of views engraved by Traversier that contained some wonderful Philadelphia scenes. Jean B.G.Roux de Rochelle published the work entitled Etats-Unis d’Amerique in 1837. The images were so popular that the plates were reissued in a number of European language editions. This print depicts the handsome group of buildings occupied by the university when it was located at 9th and Chestnut Streets.
This engraving shows Penn at its second location at Ninth and Chestnut Streets. The great mansion had originally been internded to be the residence of the President of the United States.
Hand colored steel engraving. 8 ¼ x 5 inches, sheet. Framed to museum specifications with silk covered mat. 11 3/4 x 12 1/4 inches, overall. Excellent condition. Price includes copy of Edward Potts Cheney's History of the University of Pennsylvania 1740-1940 published by the University of Pennsulvania Press in Philadelphia in 1940.
