after Thomas Cole, engraved by Asher B. Durand.
“Winnipiseogee Lake” A lovely small print of a quintessentially American 19th century landscape view. The hand colored engraving is the result of the collaboration of two artists who became two of the most famous painters of the Hudson River School. Asher B. Durand engraved this gorgeous print based upon a painting by Thomas Cole. The original print contains all of the best loved elements of the Hudson River School. Several small figures in the foreground draw the viewer’s eye through a wild landscape foreground to Lake Winnipesaukee in the far distance. A solitary boat sails across the water. Man is insignificant compared to the grandeur of nature. 7 ¾ x 10 ½ inches, sheet. Hand colored engraving. Excellent condition.
