Carl Gustav Jablonsky (1756-1787) was a talented German scientist who is credited with the wonderfully comprehensive work on butterflies entitled, Natursystem aller bekannten in-und auslandischer Insecten: Schmetterlinge ( Natural History Survey of Insects, Including Related Foreign Ones: Butterflies), published in Berlin between 1783-1804. A major work with more that 300 hand colored engraved illustrated plates many plates drawn by Jablonsky who died prematurely at the age of 31. The completion of the seven volume work was turned over to Johann F. W. Herbst. These exquisitely hand colored engravings are on laid paper and are sharp and crisp impressions in excellent original condition.
